History & Description

REDONDO TILE IS A HANDCRAFTED FLOOR AND WALL TILE PRODUCED IN MEXICO SINCE THE TURN OF THE 19TH CENTURY.  THE ORIGINAL FABRICATION TECHNIQUE WAS DEVELOPED IN 18TH CENTURY ITALY USING VARIOUS NATURAL COLORS OF MARBLE DUST AND PORTLAND CEMENT.  THIS EXTREMELY DURABLE TECHIQUE OF TILE PRODUCTION EVENTUALLY SPREAD THROUGHOUT EUROPE AND NORTH AFRICA, WITH EACH COUNTRY ADDING DESIGN INFLUENCE TO CREATE DISTINCTIVE CULTURAL STYLES.

 

 

OUR PRODUCTION FACILITY IN MEXICO CONTINUES THIS TILE TRADITION, PRODUCING A WIDE VARIETY OF BEAUTIFUL DESIGNS CREATED USING COLORED PIGMENT AND MARBLE DUST POURED INTO MOULDS OVERLAID ON PORTLAND CEMENT.  THE ENTIRE THICKNESS OF THE TILE IS 5/8”.  THE DESIGN LAYER IS 1/4” THICK, GIVING THE TILE A TREMENDOUS SURFACE LIFE, ABLE TO WITHSTAND YEARS OF FOOT TRAFFIC AND ALL WEATHER CONDITIONS.  THE TILES ARE HYDRAULICALLY PRESSED TO INCREASE DENSITY AND STRENGTH AND THEN CURED UNDER WATER FOR 24 HOURS TO GIVE THEM EXTRA HARDNESS.
